Recently I've been feeling called to perform simple ceremony on a more regular basis, to connect with the rhythms of nature, acknowledge ancestors, offer blessings and pray for peace. In honor of today's earthy New Moon, I went to the Arboretum and made a little gratitude blessing mandala with a variation on the Buddhist Metta prayer: May all beings be safe, may all beings be happy, may all beings know joy, may all beings know love. May all beings be free from suffering, today I will do all that I can to make this so.
Activism can take many forms, and I believe that in addition to attending marches, calling and writing to representatives, voting and signing petitions, holding prayerful intention is a powerful way to anchor political engagement and 'keep our eyes on the prize' of what we want to create. It is my intention for future months on the New Moon, an optimal time for planting seeds of intention, to offer ceremony with a focus on taking part in creating change with love, compassion and integrity for the highest good of all beings.
Special thanks to my daughter, Carmen, who helped me out with the recording (which was done on a cell phone, so it picks up the wind in the background) and tolerated my embarrassing singing in public.
